Winter in Europe: List of the Most Interesting Events

What about adventure travel to Europe? Very soon, streets of European cities will wear garlands & decorations; and central squares will see Christmas trees and traditional fairs. This time is interesting due to numerous festivals and cultural events, though.

You can combine your trip to Italy with a grandiose event or festivity in the country:

December-January — the biggest Christmas tree in the world in Gubbio;

January-March — Ambrosian Carnival in Milan;

January-February— winter sale in Italy;

end of January-February — Venice Carnival, Carnival in Viareggio, European Carnival in Cento;

February  — The Chocolate Fair in Florence, the famous Battle of Oranges in Ivrea (suburbs of Turin), the festival of Italian song in San Remo, the Roman carnival.

France is known for its advanced thinking in food, fashion, art, architecture. Therefore, the French have a deep-rooted culture of local festivals and events: from food markets to art and craft fairs. Here are some of the most expected event in France this winter:

November 15, 2018 – Beaujolais Nouveau – the festival of young wine;

December 5-9 – Les Rencontres Trans Musicales. This is an annual pop and rock music festival in Rennes, Brittany;

December 6-9 – Fête des Lumières. The festival of lights in Lyon, which expresses gratitude toward Mary, mother of Jesus.

December – Christmas fairs; the best markets open before the winter holidays in Colmar and Strasbourg.

December 31, 2018 – New Year. The most large-scale and spectacular performance takes place in Paris. Here you will see a grandiose light show, and fireworks, illuminating the Eiffel Tower. Don’t lose a chance to drink champagne, dance and have fun.

February 10-25, 2019 – Lemon Festival in Menton;

February 15-25, 2019 – Mimosa Festival;

February 17, 2019 – March 3, 2019 – Nice Carnival;
